Top A2 licence sportsbikes

The new Honda CBR250RR could be the most desirable A2 licence-friendly sportsbike on the market, but at the moment Honda has no plans to bring it into the UK or Europe.

In lieu of the CBR250RR below are our favourite A2 sportsbikes.

Looking for an A2 licence bike? Head over to

Honda CBR500R

Honda's latest CB500R is a great introduction to sportsbikes and feels like a proper biig bike. There's enough power spread evenly acros the entire rev range to keep experienced riders engaged. The handling is well balanced - perfect for new riders.

Kawasaki Ninja 300

Kawasaki's 300cc Ninja gives a good balance of sportiness and practicality without compromising desirability. The engine needs to be revved to get the best out of it, making it an engaging ride. Narrow seat makes it easy for shorter riders to get two feet on the floor.

The KTM RC390 is by far the sportiest on this list and as such is much more suited to riders with a bit of experience. The ride is firm compared to the others and the single-cylinder engine (all the others are twins) provides plenty of punch.

Yamaha R3

The stylish R3 sits between the KTM and Kawasaki. It's slightly sportier than the Kawasaki, with the suspension feeling a little more composed, but it's still much more practical than the KTM. Looks good, too.
