A Ducati dealership in Portland, Oregon jokingly set up an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to buy Ducati after rumours circulated that the VW/Audi group is looking to sell the Italian brand.

MotoCorsa were looking to raise $1.6 billion (£1.2 billion) to buy Ducati, before they were forced to remove the campaign after “being taken seriously by some news outlets”. Despite cancelling the campaign, the dealership has confirmed they will still honour those who pledged money to the campaign with their respective gifts.

24 backers pledged money to the campaign to a total of £1058 (£819.90), less than 1% of the desired total. For reference a $25 investment would buy you 0.0000015625% of the brand. The image the dealership chose for the crowdfunding campaign (above) should have made it clear the they weren’t completely serious.
