Back protectors made compulsory at trackdays

Back protectors are being made compulsory for most UK trackdays from March 31, 2022.

The move has been sparked by leading trackday provider Motorsport Vision Trackdays and is a progression from their previous stance of ‘strongly recommending’ back protectors to making them compulsory at events this year at Donington, Cadwell and Oulton Parks, plus Snetterton, Brands and Bedford Autodrome.

What’s more, as MSVT is part of the MSV group which owns those circuits, other trackday companies which operate at those venues are required to follow suit.

MSVT say the protector used must cover the majority of the spine and be fit for purpose but can be integrated or standalone. Pitlane marshals will check for them when riders line up for their sighting laps.

MSV Trackdays manager Mark Rusted told MCN: “We have been running trackdays for many years and seen the environment evolve. The rules in place need to evolve with them. There are a wide range of good quality back protector products available suitable for all budgets.”
