A whole new welt: BMW open 'Motorrad Welt' museum in Berlin

BMW Motorrad have marked their centenary with the star-studded opening of the new ‘BMW Motorrad Welt’ (BMW Motorcycle World) visitor centre in Berlin.

Opened to coincide precisely with the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of their very first motorcycle, the R32, on September 28, 1923, the venue is set to form the ‘heart’ of the German motorcycle brand.

“When we celebrate 100 years of BMW Motorrad today, we are of course celebrating 100 years of German industrial history, 100 years of development and innovation, 100 years of global competition,” said guest of honour, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The opening of BMW Motorrad Welt

“I am happy that with today’s opening of the Motorrad Welt, BMW is also enabling many curious people to discover what is being created here in Berlin.”

It’s located near the entrance of BMW’s vast motorcycle factory in west Berlin (where most bikes have been built since 1969) and has been created on the ground floor of one of the factory buildings. You’ll also find a café, lounges and a presentation area all decorated with BMW artefacts, products, and videos old and new.

Alongside Chancellor Scholz, the venue was opened by the Mayor of Berlin and top BMW executives. The new facility will be the public-facing ‘hub’ of BMW Motorrad’s activities such as factory tours, presentations and other activities both for the public, guests and BMW workers.
