We’ve been riding the 1340cc Suzuki B-King now for four 20-minute track sessions at the Lausitzring in Dresden, Germany and already the huge naked muscle bike is standing up as one of the most important motorcycles of the year.
Despite the 181.5bhp B-King being one of the biggest motorcycles on the road, the riding position doesn’t feel spacious – the air intakes that wrap around the tank restrict your knees if your tall (I’m 6ft 3 and found it a little cramped) but there is enough seat length to allow you to shift backwards to free up some space. On the track it wasn’t a problem, but if you’re tall it may become a pain for riding on the road.
Over the course of the four sessions I dialled in some stiffer settings for the front and rear and once I’d made the bike stiffer I was surprised at just how well you can attack corners on the B-King, even thought it’s not been designed for track riding.
Ground clearance is a real problem on the track though, I managed to wear through most of the footrests, but in the real world the amount of clearance is not going to be a problem.
As far as the noise from the big exhausts goes, when you’re on the move the sound is pretty muted – that’s not a negative, but I am sure there are some people who will be expecting the bike to sound a lot louder in the flesh than it actually does.
But at the end of the day, it’s all about the engine – there is just so much of it that you can just grab another gear and ride the great dollop of torque out of corners.
It’s so effective, I haven’t hit the rev limiter all day. Great fun.
