The most notable of changes to the models (which both share the same base platform) is a capacity hike from 749cc to 900cc, which has been achieved by lengthening the stroke from 56.4mm to 67.4mm, while the bore remains the same at 92mm, bringing the peak power to 93.9hp at 8500rpm and more importantly increasing the torque to 66ftlb at 6500rpm. This makes the engine response, according to Aprilia, more linear with benefits coming from increases to the acceleration, especially in the middle of the rev range.
A comprehensive electronics package upgrade also sees both models being brought up-to-date. They now feature a new and lighter ride-by-wire system with selectable sport, touring and rain throttle maps, complimented further by a new 3-way adjustable traction control and ABS system that are switchable and will now come as standard.
A 4.3-inch TFT screen forms the basis of the new easy to read dash, which is the same as the unit that’s used on Aprilia’s RSV4 and Tuono 1100 V4.
A new 41mm Kayaba fork features on both models and is fully adjustable, while the new three-spoke wheels are 2.1kg lighter than those on the 750 models.
Both the Dorsoduro and Shiver will be more accessible now, too – with an optional restrictor kit available allowing the bikes to be ridden by A2 licence holders.
