Alta Motors unveil Redshift EX

American electric bike builders Alta Motors have been steadily developing their line-up and now they’ve added another: the Redshift EX, an enduro version of the existing MX model.

The changes are fairly simple, so they’ve taken the MX, swapped in an 18in rear wheel, tweaked the chassis slightly, changed the rear shock and stuck on a number plate. The result is a 124kg electric bike, with 39bhp and a staggering 120ftlb of torque.

Alta say the 5.8kWh battery pack is good for around 60 miles on the road, or four hours of trail riding, which would be plenty for most people. Charge time is roughly two-and-a-half hours so you won’t have to wait too long before getting back out.

For now Alta don’t have a UK dealer network, which is a real shame as their off-road bikes are really exciting. If you’re desperate to import one, they retail in the US for $15,495 (about £11,849).
