Piaggio have announced the first details of the 2019 Vespa GTS 300 HPE, which is the most powerful and fuel-efficient engine in the firm’s history, boasting peak power of 23.5bhp.

More from MCN

Thanks to a latest-generation Magneti Marelli ECU, the 300 lump is already future-proofed to Euro5 standard. Buyers will also enjoy new, all-steel bodywork, full LED lighting and a new saddle.

Vespa GTS 300 range updated for 2019

Alongside the powerful new motor, MCN reported last year that the Italian outfit have updated their entire Vespa GTS range for 2019 in pursuit of greater performance, comfort and styling.

Now comprising of five models; the Vespa GTS, GTS Touring, GTS Super, GTS SuperSport and Vespa GTS SuperTech, the latest range boasts traits such as an improved riding position and advanced technological upgrades.

New for 2019, the GTS SuperTech comes complete with a smartphone compliant full-colour 4.3in TFT display, showing features including speed, total and partial mileage, ambient temperature and fuel level. All machines will also feature LED lighting to the front and rear to maximise visibility to other road users.

Plenty of striking paint schemes are available

All models not fitted with the new HPE engine will be available with the brand’s easy-going L-plate friendly 125 i-get single-cylinder engine.

Tweaked styling

Alongside an increased 12% power from the larger-capacity motor, the bikes have also received a range of styling tweaks in an attempt to keep the classic Vespa look both modern and contemporary.

This includes new handlebars and chrome crest adorning the front mudguard, as well as a new honeycomb motif displayed on the grilles to the sides of the leg-covering shield.

Comfort is also boosted for both rider and pillion with a new seat featuring both new levels of padding and upholstery. This covers a large compartment capable of taking two open face helmets, with room to spare.
