Kyle Ryde dominated the third and final race at Silverstone

Kyle Ryde dominated the third and final race of the weekend at Silverstone to win his second Bennetts British Superbike race.

Ryde started the race from pole, just a few hours after securing his maiden BSB victory on the Buildbase Suzuki. A positive start saw Ryde fend off the challenge of Jason O’Halloran heading through Copse, allowing him to pull away and control the pace.

Whilst the rest battled behind him, Ryde continued to pull away at the front. Remarkably, given that several riders were suffering from tyre issues, Ryde was able to set several fastest laps in the closing stages.

Ryde crossed the line with a 1.549s advantage over race one winner Tarran Mackenzie. The McAMS Yamaha rider, much like he did in the opening race, had battled through the field to take another podium. Mackenzie had an entertaining battle with Christian Iddon and Josh Brookes on his way through the pack.

After getting the better of Glenn Irwin, Mackenzie then successfully duelled with teammate Jason O’Halloran, who secured a hat-trick of thirds at Silverstone. The Australian now has five podiums this season, with all five seeing him on the third step.

Championship leader Glenn Irwin finished fourth for the third time during the weekend at Silverstone. Whilst he was unable to match the Suzuki and Yamaha’s, Irwin ensured that he protected his tyre and kept ahead of his nearest title rivals, the Ducati’s.

Tommy Bridewell was the top Ducati rider in fifth, after getting the better of VisionTrack Ducati’s Brookes and Iddon on the final lap of the race.

Lee Jackson finished eighth, with Andrew Irwin and Luke Mossey completing the top 10. The pair had overtaken Danny Buchan on the final lap.

Bjorn Estment was the only retirement of race three, with the NP Motorcycles BMW rider pulling off before the start of the race.

Despite missing out on a podium spot, Glenn Irwin has increased his lead in the championship to 35 points. Brookes and Bridewell are both on 122 points, with Ryde moving up to fourth in the standings with 114 points.

The next race meeting of the 2020 BSB season takes place at Oulton Park on September 18-20.

BSB Silverstone - Race Three Results

BSB: Kyle Ryde clinches a sensational maiden victory in race two at Silverstone

Kyle Ryde clinched his first-ever Bennetts British Superbike Championship race win after a clinical display in race two at Silverstone.

Full of confidence after securing his maiden podium in the opening race of the weekend, Ryde once again found himself inside the top three. The Buildbase Suzuki rider slotted in behind Josh Brookes and followed the Australian for the majority of the race.

Ryde made his move at the first corner on lap 27, slotting down the inside of Brookes at Copse. As well as taking the lead, Ryde also set the fastest lap of the race and quickly pulled the pin. Ryde left the chasing pack behind and ended up crossing the line with an advantage of +1.686s over Brookes.

Meanwhile, Brookes fought hard to keep Jason O’Halloran behind him on the final lap of the race. That was Brookes’ first podium of the weekend, with O’Halloran finishing third once again.

Championship leader Glenn Irwin finished fourth for the second consecutive race. The Honda Racing UK rider appeared to be managing his tyres in the early stages and was unable to chase down the leading trio.

Bradley Ray equalled his best result of 2020 in fifth after coming out on top in an entertaining battle with Tommy Bridewell (sixth), Lee Jackson (seventh), Danny Buchan (eighth) and Andrew Irwin in ninth. Irwin crossed the line ahead of Buchan but was given a one place penalty after exceeding track limits coming out of the final corner. Hector Barbera completed the top 10 for Rich Energy OMG Racing BMW.

Peter Hickman and Gino Rea were 11th and 12th respectively, with Christian Iddon falling down to 13th in the closing stages. The VisionTrack Ducati rider had been involved in the battle for fifth for most of the race. Joe Francis was 14th, whilst 17-year-old Storm Stacey secured his first-ever BSB point in 15th for the GR Motorsport team.

Tarran Mackenzie, winner of race one, was forced to retire with a mechanical problem whilst battling for the lead of the race with Brookes. Other retirements include Bjorn Estment, Luke Mossey, Josh Owens and Ryan Vickers.

Glenn Irwin now has a 32-point advantage in the championship standings, with Brookes moving up into second spot. Ryde’s victory moves him up into sixth in standings on 89 points.

The third and final race of the weekend at Silverstone is scheduled to begin at 16:30.

BSB: Tarran Mackenzie battles through to take his first victory of 2020 at Silverstone

Tarran Mackenzie wins Silverstone Race Two

Tarran Mackenzie became the sixth different winner of the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship after battling his way through the pack at Silverstone.

Mackenzie started the race down in 12th but managed to fight his way through with some impressive race pace. Mackenzie opened up a clear gap at one stage and was then able to hold off a late charge from Kyle Ryde to secure his first victory of 2020. It’s Mackenzie’s second victory of his BSB career, with his first win also coming at Silverstone in 2019.

The story so far at Silverstone

Ryde finished second to clinch his first-ever BSB podium for the Buildbase Suzuki team, with Jason O’Halloran completing the podium on the second McAMS Yamaha machine. O’Halloran also set a new lap record around the National Circuit at Silverstone, posting a timeo of 53.342.

Honda Racing UK duo Glenn and Andrew Irwin were fourth and fifth respectively. The pair were leading the pack at one stage, with Glenn having a comfortable advantage at the front. Andrew would drop back down the order after running on at Brooklands, whilst Glenn appeared to struggle for grip in the closing stages.

Josh Brookes was the top Ducati rider in sixth spot. The VisionTrack Ducati rider fell down the order in the early stages and was locked in a battle with teammate Christian Iddon and Andrew Irwin.

Lee Jackson continued his impressive run of form to take seventh, ahead of Iddon and polesitter Danny Buchan. Tommy Bridewell fought his way through from last on the grid to take a respectable 10th on his Oxford Products Racing Ducati.

Luke Mossey was the top BMW in 11th spot, with the Rich Energy OMG Racing rider leader a quartet of BMW riders. He beat Bradley Ray (12th), Hector Barbera (13th) and Peter Hickman (14th). Ryan Vickers was the final rider to score points in race one.

Josh Owens retired on the opening lap with a bike problem, whilst Gino Rea also had to retire with a problem on his Buildbase Suzuki. Joe Francis was the third rider to retire from the opening race of the weekend at Silverstone.

Today’s results mean that Glenn Irwin has extended his championship lead to 30 points. Bridewell is his nearest challenger in second, with Iddon another seven points further back in third. Brookes is now 39 points behind Irwin in the standings.

The second race of the weekend is scheduled to begin at 12:15 tomorrow. This will be followed by race three at 16:30.

BSB Silverstone Race One Results

BSB: Danny Buchan claims pole at Silverstone with the session red flagged

Danny Buchan claimed his second consecutive pole position of the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Silverstone in a session which ended early following a red flag accident at turn one.

Several riders went down at the first corner after what looked to be an oil spill on the circuit. Those involved in the accident were: Hector Barbera, Alex Olsen, Taylor Mackenzie, Josh Owens, Storm Stacey and Lee Jackson. Olsen received instant medical treatment and an update on his condition has since been released by the medical team at Silverstone:

“Following the multi-rider incident in QP at T1. Alex Olsen was taken to the medical centre with chest & possible abdominal injuries, he is conscious and is being flown to Coventry hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

Due to extensive track contamination, Race Direction declared the result with 10 minutes remaining on the clock. 66% of the session had been completed, with a minimum of 50% needed in order to declare a result.

The incident happened just moments after the session had been restarted. Qualifying had been red flagged after Graeme Irwin had a huge highside at Brooklands.

Buchan will line-up alongside Josh Brookes, who had initially gone top of the leaderboard following the restart. Buchan managed to take pole away from the Australian a few seconds later. Jason O’Halloran completes the front row for McAMS Yamaha.

Andrew and Glenn Irwin will start fourth and fifth respectively, with Bradley Ray joining them on the second row for SYNETIQ BMW.

Kyle Ryde starts seventh but has already shown today that he has the pace to fight towards the front of the pack. Lee Jackson, Hector Barbera and Luke Mossey complete the top 10. Gino Rea, who topped FP1, qualified in 11th spot on the second Buildbase Suzuki.

Christian Iddon, who won his first BSB race at Snetterton, will start the opening race at Silverstone from 13th. Meanwhile, Tommy Bridewell will start from the back of the grid after having issues with his Ducati throughout the session.

The opening race at Silverstone is scheduled to begin at 16:30 this afternoon.

BSB: Kyle Ryde dominates Free Practice Two at Silverstone

Kyle Ryde took control of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship race weekend at Silverstone by dominating Free Practice Two.

The Suzuki rider led the majority of the session but was able to take things to another level in the final few minutes. His final three laps – 53.428, 53.414 and a 53.273 – were all quicker than yesterday’s fastest time and last year’s pole lap.

Ryde completed 27 laps in total as he led Buildbase Suzuki to the top of the timesheets for the second time this weekend – following Gino Rea’s success in FP1 on Friday.

Jason O’Halloran moved up to second on his final flying lap. The McAMS Yamaha rider was +0.295 slower that Ryde’s fastest time. Josh Brookes completed the top three for VisionTrack Ducati.

Danny Buchan enjoyed a much better session on the Rapid Fulfillment Kawasaki, ending FP4 in fourth spot – after ending FP1 down in 19th.

The BMW riders also had a much stronger session this morning. Luke Mossey led the BMW charge in fifth for Rich Energy OMG Racing. Mossey did momentarily lead the session with just under 20 minutes remaining.

FP1 pacesetter Rea was in sixth, ahead of Joe Francis on the PR Racing Lloyd & Jones Bowker BMW and Peter Hickman on the Global Robots by Smiths Racing BMW. Bradley Ray was ninth on the SYNETIQ BMW, with Glenn Irwin completing the top 10 on the Honda Fireblade.

Lee Jackson just missed out on a top 10 spot in 11th, having been inside the top three earlier on. Andrew Irwin and Tarran Mackenzie were 12th and 13th respectively. Tommy Bridewell was 17th on the Oxford Products Racing Ducati and appeared to have some form of bike issue towards the end of the session.

It was another competitive practice session overall, with the top 18 riders covered by only 0.856.

Today’s qualifying session is scheduled to begin at 12:15. The opening BSB race of the weekend will then follow at 16:30.

BSB: Gino Rea tops the opening practice session at Silverstone

Gino Rea topped the opening Bennetts British Superbike Championship free practice session of the weekend at Silverstone, just a few days after competing in the Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race.

Rea, competing with the Buildbase Suzuki team for only the second time, went quickest with only a couple of minutes remaining. His time of 53.434 was quicker than last season’s pole time, a 53.549 set by Tarran Mackenzie.
