Sam Cox will make his Bennetts British Superbike debut this weekend at Silverstone after signing for NP Motorcycles BMW.

Cox, who has been a regular contender in the BSB paddock for several years, joins the team following the departure of Joey Thompson. Cox has previously competed in the Superstock and Supersport classes, and has featured in this year’s Ducati Tri-Options Cup.

After 10 races, Cox sits 10th overall in the Ducati standings after taking a best result of fifth at Brands Hatch and Snetterton.

“I am really excited to make the challenging step up to the Superbike class and I can’t wait to get started with the team,” Cox said. “I already know the guys in the garage and I’m really looking forward to learning the bike and developing it with them.

“This is an amazing opportunity for me, and it has always been a dream of mine to be on a BSB grid and participate in the most competitive championship in the country. I can’t wait to get out there at Silverstone this weekend, so a massive thank you to the team and the sponsors for making this a possibility.”

Team owner Neil Pearson added: “Sam has a wealth of experience and knowledge gained from various classes across the BSB support classes, and I think he will adapt well to the Superbike. We both understand it’s going to be a challenge for him, but we are both looking forward to working hard together to make good progress.”

The opening two free practice sessions of the weekend at Silverstone are due to take place today (September 10) at 13:30 and 15:45 respectively.
