Roads: Agostini to ride parade lap at Classic TT

Giacomo Agostini will ride a parade lap at this year’s 2019 Classic TT races aboard a 350cc MV Agusta ‘Quattro Cilindri’, owned by Robert Iannucci.

The 15-time world champion will lead a procession of bikes around the 37.73-mile course on Monday, August 26, as part of the Classic Racer Magazine Classic TT Lap of Honour.

What’s more, he will also appear at the Vintage Motor Cycle Club’s Festival of Jurby the day before, as well as the RST Classic TT Heroes dinner that evening.

Agostini enjoyed a great deal of success with MV Agusta; winning the 500cc championship seven times for the manufacturer and securing 62 500cc and 48 350cc race wins.

First introduced to the world stage in 1972, the bike in question was raced by Agostini in 1976, when he formed his own team with Marlboro. This was the season in which he secured MV their final-ever 350cc race win at Assen, as well as the final-ever four-stroke win in the class.

Speaking about the ride, Iannucci said: “We have been a passionate supporter of the Classic TT concept since its initial inception and the chance to bring back the combination of one of the greatest names in TT history and one of the most iconic marques was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.

“We are delighted to be able to give people on the Isle of Man the chance to witness this remarkable bike being ridden on the Mountain Course and to be able to add another chapter to this prestigious event’s growing reputation.”
