Glove review: Rukka Apollo

Rukka Apollo gloves, £169.99
Miles covered/time: 7000/two years
What’s good: These could well be the best gloves I’ve ever worn. Not only are they splendidly comfortable with excellent feel for my bike’s controls, they are also waterproof and breathable thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane.
Better still, there is hard armour over the knuckles (but it’s under the leather, so looks subtle rather than Robocop) and there is also a visor wipe on the thumb.
Despite the gloves being a couple of years old, they’ve still been up to the job of defeating the worst of the weather – and we’ve had some pretty monstrous conditions over the last few weeks.
I once had a different make of glove come off in a crash, so the very secure wrist fastening on the Rukkas is very welcome.
What’s not: The cuff isn’t that long so you won’t be able to wear it over the top of your jacket. Unsurprisingly, the white leather shows the dirt – the gloves are also available in a more grime-resistant black. Other than that, they are hard to fault.
