Helmet review: Arai TourX3

Arai Tour-X3 (now the X4)
Time tested: 7500/30 months
What’s good: Made famous by the Ewan and Charley show – but don’t let that put you off – the Tour-X3 is a real cross-over helmet, treading the line with impressive neutrality between a full-on road lid, and a full-face motocross one. The lining is usefully removable and washable, and the large interchangeable visors boast Pinlock and a good enough seal to keep the water on the outside when the heavens are dumping. The choice of visors means you never need commit the faux pas of wearing sunglasses beneath a clear visor, and the peak keeps direct sunlight from your eyes.
What’s not: My only major grumble is the visor mechanism, which requires you to remove four plastic screws, muck about with the visor, the peak, and the side panel all at the same time. And that’s all assuming you’re carrying something to use as a screwdriver (like a screwdriver, ideally).
