What’s good? Having a 1980s bike doesn’t mean having to reply on 1980s rubber. These Avon Roadriders have brought my 1986 Kawasaki GPz550 up to date and are infinitely superior to the concrete-like tyres that were on it when I bought it.

The Avon name is synonymous with a certain era of performance motorcycling (even if the GPz550 isn’t) and these come in sizes to suit a range of skinny-wheeled older machines.

They’re commuter-spec so work well in the wet and should last a long time. Road testers tell me they’re easily fit for getting your knee down, although I can’t say I’ve tried it.   

What’s not? All I can say to their detriment is they’re by no means the cheapest tyres available in this size. And, for a lot of people running old nails, cost will be paramount.
