MT Revenge Evo helmet, £79.99
Time tested: 1200 miles/three months
What’s good? If you don’t have oodles of cash to spend, this lid delivers reasonable comfort and spec for £80. And it scores a maximum five stars in the UK Government-funded SHARP impact tests. The test scheme has its critics, but I think it’s a valuable safety net to stop sub-standard lids getting to the market and to help us make informed decisions on what will protect our head best, regardless of budget. Not everyone can afford to take the ‘it’s good enough for Marc Marquez, it’s good enough for me’ approach.
What’s not? For someone used to more expensive helmets, there have been downsides to the MT. The highly curved visor distorts my vision a little and mists badly (add an extra 20 quid for an anti-mist visor) and I needed to ‘massage’ the polystyrene to relieve pressure points. But it does the job at a low price.
