Stylmartin Red Rock boots, £169

Time tested:  One year/7000 miles

Tester: Andy Davidson

What’s good? I took ownership of these boots just over a year ago and have been happy with them since. They’re fantastic everyday boots which double up as decent bike footwear. The main reason I like them so much is because they look cool. Sure, the leather has faded considerably and a colleague informs me they now look scruffy, but I love the look. The Stylmartins are comfortable all day long and are fit perfectly. Aside from the fading they haven’t worn down, except for a little fraying round the edges, and the soles have masses of tread left. They’re billed as waterproof and they do the job, so long as it’s not torrential.

What’s not? The only let down is the lack of ankle protection. Safety duty is left to a comfy padded collar and tough leather round the ankle, which won’t do much in the event of a spill.
