Motorcycle Insurance bargains: Suzuki GSX-R600

1 of 3

Motorcycle insurance costs are an important consideration for any bike buyer. That's why MCN is highlighting some of the best cheap-to-insure motorcycles out there. This time it's the Suzuki GSX-R600.

Insurance group: 15
Used price: £3,700 - £4,400
New price: £7,600
Engine: 16v inline four, 6 gears
Power: 112bhp
Top speed: 164mph
Weight: 165kg

Out of all the 600cc sports rockets on the market, the Suzuki GSX-R600 is not only one of the most sensible buys. It's not only the most road-baised of the sports bike middleweights, it's also one of the cheapest to insure at group 15 - lower than the Yamaha R6, Kawasaki ZX-6R and Honda CBR600R.

The GSX-R600 may not have the same top end rush as the likes of the R6 and ZX-6R, but it's not slow by any means. When Suzuki reworked the Gixer 6 in 2008, they focused their energy on improving the midrange and low down power. As a result its much more useable on the road. It also got the 3 way power mode switch, so you can tone it down for wet-weather riding.

Handling is as faultless as you'd expect from a modern Japanese 600 - far better than most of us will ever be able to exploit. The suspension is softer than the competition, once again making it more suited to road use. Plus it's fully adjustable so with a little tweaking you can create an epic track or race bike too.

For your money you get an electronic steering damper, slipper clutch and proven reliability - just ask anyone involved in the UK GSX-R cup. Yes it's a tad less focused than the competition, but thats because its a sports bike designed for the road and it's all the better for it.
