Biking magician pulls Yamaha Tracer 700 GT out of the hat in MCN competition
A Wolverhampton-based biking magician has bagged a brilliant motorcycling prize – a brand-new Yamaha Tracer 700 GT in an MCN competition.
Shaun Mansfield, 56, says the middleweight tourer allows him to visit his family more frequently and plans to ride it to the Isle of Man TT, where he volunteers as a marshal.
"I found out I had won when I was out walking my dog. I got an email to say I’d won a competition," he told MCN, admitting he’d forgotten all about entering it.
"I thought I’d won a magazine subscription so when I found out I’d won the bike I kept saying 'No, that can’t be real!' Then I spoke to Yamaha and after they confirmed it all, I still couldn’t believe it!
"My children and my partner didn’t believe me and I had to show them the magazine advertising the competition to prove it. But what a fantastic prize. I’m so pleased."
With a Yamaha MT-09 Street Tracker already in the garage, Shaun has specced the Tracer for maximum practicality, adding spotlights, heated grips and louder horn to the colour-matched luggage and taller touring screen. The idea is to use it so he can visit his relatives more.
He added: "I’m originally from Tamworth so I come to see my daughter at least once a week. She had my first grandchild and now I have the Tracer I plan to visit a lot more.
"I’ll also use it to go to Magic Club every week, as I’ll no longer need a backpack. The right pannier is full of locks and a cover and the other has my magicians' jacket and a little briefcase with my tricks in."
Alongside its weekly duties, Shaun also hopes its added comfort over his MT-09 will convince his partner to join him to this year’s TT.
"I haven’t taken my bike over yet, but keep thinking about it. If I can persuade my partner to go on the back we’ll go on the Tracer."
