What’s good? Like a lot of motorcyclists I take protection seriously whether it’s one-piece leathers on the track, fully-armoured textile jacket on the road or knee braces and armour off-road. Thankfully in recent years I haven’t treated my body like the crash test dummy it used to be, so I questioned how necessary it all was – especially after suffering nothing but minor falls. But last week I was reminded of the benefits of wearing the best kit available. After smashing into a tree stump on an enduro practice day I owe my Alpinestars Tech8 boots a lot – namely that I don’t have two or three broken toes. It was a big impact, it hurt and my toes were left black and blue, but they didn’t break. I put this down to the superb protection offered by the Tech 8s, which have been developed over many years and represent the pinnacle of off-road boot technology.
What’s not? The only thing I don’t like is the stiffness of the four buckles that do up the boots. At the end of a ride when my hands are destroyed it’s a massive effort to get them off. But, saying that, they never come undone on the move.
