Best thing about it: Its chunky leather and Kevlar panels saved my skin in an accident. The zipper on the left cuff was ground off and the arm sustained scuffs, but despite going down quite hard on my shoulder I escaped unscathed.

With the removable quilted liner in (and a few layers underneath) I found it warm enough for riding in winter yet supple enough to allow good freedom of movement. I love the retro styling and touches like the cushioned shoulder logos, tight-fitting cuffs and stretch panels under the arms that show thought went into the design.

Worst thing about it: Perforated leather on the chest lets in rain but doesn’t stop it from being a bit too hot and heavy for summer riding.

Stars (out of five): ****
