TAG Racing, fresh from their strong 2013 Motorpoint British Supersport campaign, have announced the first of two riders for 2014 as the team move from supersport to the MCE British Superbike Championship.

Former National Superstock rider Richard Cooper will join the team to ride their new Kawasaki machinery, with the team hoping the highly experienced rider will bring the competitiveness they need to run at the front of British Superbikes.

Previously a BSB wildcard, Cooper managed a front row start in his debut race in the class back in 2009 at Mallory Park, and as well as lifting the Superstock trophy in 2011 has also enjoyed success at world level as part of the BMW HP2 development team that laid the groundwork for the S1000RR

Cooper said: “The time feels right for me to move into Superbike and I am really excited about 2014. I have raced across the different classes and this is the perfect opportunity now for me to step up with the TAG Racing team as we have a strong foundation from working together in the Supersport class.  The rules in the Superbike Championship lend themselves to giving teams like us the opportunity to try and take on some of the more established teams and we are already working on the Kawasaki so that it suits my style and that will bring confidence. The buzz at the moment is about BSB and it feels great to know that we are going to be a part of that next year. I have my targets for next year and we are looking for a debut season that we can then build on and move forward in the future.”
