Pipe Werx Stainless Steel Oval exhausts, £330
Time used: One month
What’s good: The finish is excellent – including the carved “X” design in the removable baffle – and the sound is pleasingly raw and brash on my Street Triple. With the baffles out they’re viciously loud, with an electrifying over-run crackle. They’re extremely lightweight compared to the stock cans and the link pipe and hanger are reasonably easy and quick to fit. Triumph’s “Accessory Silencers” for track use cost a comparable £320, but the official Arrow slip-ons cost £695. In comparison Pipe Werx is offering an affordable alternative to customise the sound and look of your bike. They’re also available in powder black, carbon, titanium and coloured titanium finishes.
What’s not: If exhausts are like booze (bear with me) these are like Stella. While top end brands like Akrapovic equate to hand-picked Malbec grapes, lovingly ripened to delight your senses and enhance your charms, Pipe Werx are the loud, gassy malted barley alternative designed to make you blast in as loudly and as mightily as you can. No bad thing. The original two-piece mounting bracket was difficult to compress and fiddly to affix, luckily Pipe Werx have since developed a much more pliant single-piece alternative.
