Helmet review: Box JX-2 open face

Box JX-2 open face helmet - £39.99 (in the MCN Shop)
Miles covered/time:
100 (off-road) /one month

What’s good? It’s a retro looking helmet, but made to modern standards. So you can look the part and protect your head while wobbling around on vintage trials bikes.

High-tech features include a strap at the back for your goggles and a peak to keep the sun out of your eyes.

It also includes a vague feeling that you are being a proper motorcyclist, like the chaps in vintage Norton adverts.

What’s not? High speed travel might be a bit interesting with a peak on the front but since my trials bike tops out at an estimated (and probably optimistic) 30mph it’s not a problem.

Like all open face lids, it’s best not to think too much about what would happen if you landed on your face. The chin-strap can be a bit fiddly to remove while wearing gloves.
