What’s good? Specials guru, Pikes Peak racer, creator of R nineT-based concepts for BMW, Roland Sands is the man of the moment and he’s also behind the sleek monochrome graphics on this Bell. It’s a stand-out lid and I’ve had a fair few people mistakenly ask if I have had it sprayed up myself – only for me to tell them it’s an off-the-shelf design, albeit a rather special one. And it’s not just about looks. Carbon construction means it’s pleasingly light at 1200g, which helps cut fatigue on the naked Ducati Scrambler I am riding this year. The vents work OK, too, and I like the magnet in the end of the strap, which sticks to the doube D-ring fastener to take care of the excess webbing. There are pockets for speakers if you like music, phonecalls or bossy sat-navs on the move (I don’t, personally).

What’s not? There is a small amount of wind noise, nothing dramatic and soon soaked up by earplugs. At just a penny under £500 it’s far from cheap but is inline with other full-carbon rivals.
