Alpinestars GP Pro leather jacket £449.99

Tester: Michael Neeves

Time tested: Six months/2000 miles

What’s good? I’ve been wearing this jacket on road tests with riding jeans, or leather trousers, for the past six months. I also used it on a tour around Tasmania earlier in the year. Made from 1.3mm leather, it comes with CE-certified shoulder and elbow protection. I wear a back protector with it on the road and add a chest protector as well when riding on the track. Build and quality is top-notch and it’s comfortable to wear on a bike. I like that the cut is longer than normal leather jackets so my lower back isn’t exposed to the elements when I’m leaning forward to reach the bars.

What’s not? It’s at the top end of the price scale and, like many race-style leather jackets with body armour, it’s designed to be worn on a bike so it doesn’t make for the most comfortable casual wear.
