BMW Motorrad UK registered a record 9,353 new motorbikes in 2019, a 3.5% increase on 2018’s figure.
Motorcycle and powered two wheeler (PTW) sales were up across the board in 2019, but this included a lot of small capacity bikes and twist and go scooters. The really great news is that BMW saw a 26.8% increase in the 250-500cc sector and were up 1.7% in the 500cc and above category.
The BMW R1250GS became the UK’s most popular bike above 500cc with 1827 sold, and a further 1773 R1250GS Adventures were registered, too. These figures combined make the R1250GS in all forms the most popular bike of 2019 across all categories.
"We saw an extremely positive market response to our new and highly-advanced 1250 ShiftCam engine, a powerplant at the heart of many of our industry- and class-leading motorcycles," said Phil Horton, BMW Motorrad UK Director.
"We’re equally excited about the prospects for 2020 with the imminent arrival of our much-anticipated F900R and XR, a new S1000XR in summer, plus the Big Boxer launch towards the end of the year."
