Helmet Review: HJC RPHA Max flip-front helmet

HJC RPHA Max flip-front helmet, £359.99
Tester: Tony Hoare
Miles/time: 1800 miles/one month
What’s good? I’ve shied away from flip-up lids because I don’t like the image, but the RPHA Max soothed those concerns enough for me to use it on an 1800-mile trip to Italy. It’s essentially HJC’s RPHA10 race helmet, but with the convenience of a flip-front helmet. It’s beautifully comfortable for my head shape (long, square) and comes with a Pinlock anti-mist visor insert, a slide-down sun visor and a chin curtain that dramatically improves insulation and reduces wind noise.
What’s not? The visor seal let a small amount of water leak through and the Pinlock insert doesn’t fit securely enough to my visor. HJC’s importers insist the latter problem has been rectified on newer versions.
