Oxford Chill Out thermal jacket, £69.99

Tester: Michael Guy

Time tested: Seven years/13,000 miles

What’s good? This jacket is well tailored and works well under a winter jacket because there is no excess material to ruck up. The short design means that it doesn’t drop below the bottom of a winter jacket which means it’s not exposed to the elements. I also use it as a replacement for the liner of one of my winter jackets as I feel it give better warmth and wind protection. This jacket also doubles up as my winter mountain biking jacket of choice because its genuinely windproof and thick enough to keep you dry in light rain.

What’s not? The design has changed but based on my experience of this jacket it’s hard to fault. Pockets could be bigger and the neck is a bit in between In terms of height when fully zipped up.
