Product review: DXR Ladies Karen Aramid Fibre jeans

1 of 1

I tested these DXR Karen Aramid Fibre riding jeans for women over 1000 miles and eight months. Made from a heavy weight denim, they are partially reinforced with an Aramid Fibre lining and have CE- approved knee armour. It took a few attempts to get the correct size in these (I’d normally be a size 12 but needed a size 16 in the DXR brand) and although it’s not a major issue, it does mean you need to make sure you try before you buy.

With being mainly an internet shop, it’s lucky they have a decent returns policy. Once I’d got the right size, they fitted me well around the hips and waist, while being long enough for my 32in inside leg. The pockets for the CE-approved knee armour are annoying, though, and they could do with a proper closure rather than the small flap of material.

As I put them on I regularly end up with my foot in the armour pocket. They’ve been through the normal wash and I was happy to find the colour didn’t run. Often with riding jeans I find the pockets are worse than useless but that’s not the case with these. The front pockets are exceptionally deep and I’m confident enough to carry house keys in them. The rear pockets are also large enough to be of use. You get a lot for your money.
