Hein Gericke Pathan gloves (superseded by Pathan Evo, £59.99)
Time tested: 80,000 miles plus/6-7 years
What’s good? I’ve called these gloves ‘old faithful’, as I always come back to my ‘Penguin’ gloves. They’re not attractive, but are 100% waterproof and warm. I’ve ridden all day in the worst rain possible and they’ve not even let in a drop. No gloves keep hands warm in the depths of winter but these are some of the best I’ve ever tried. None of the stitching has come away, the Velcro is still strong and they’ve covered around 80,000 winter miles, which is impressive considering the budget price. Under £60 for winter waterproof gloves, is a no-brain decision, I’ll be ordering another pair.
What’s not? There’s no solid protection over the knuckles, they lack a little feel and are a little awkward - for example you can’t use one finger separately for the clutch. The older they get the more they appear to the let the cold in, but they are old and still 100% waterproof.
