Crowtree made-to-measure jacket, £340
Tester: Rupert Paul
Miles covered/time: 150,000/16 years
What’s good? How about these are the toughest leathers in the world? Because they are. I once saw a crash from a radar-certified 172mph where the Crowtree-clad rider, Mark Forsyth, tumbled and slid to a standstill. I thought he was dead. In fact, he’d just cut his finger.
Another customer beat that on a speed record run: he clipped the lights at 204mph and escaped unhurt. Many customers crash several times before bothering with repairs. “It’s like putting on an armadillo,” says colleague Andy Downes. It’s still in as-new condition though. And for made-to-measure it’s ridiculously cheap.
What’s not? OK, it’s heavy, and not particularly comfortable in the pub. But on the bike it’s the best friend I’ve ever had.
