Kit review: Aerostich Darien fleece liner
Aerostich Darien fleece liner, $187 (£118)
Miles covered/time: 3500/15 months
What’s good? Most jacket linings are exactly that – linings, not something you could wear on its own. The (deep breath) Darien TKLTec Wind Blocker Fleece Liner is cleverly designed and well thought out. If the weather is too warm to wear it during the day, it folds very neatly into a built in pocket/pouch which comes complete with belt loops, so it can be attached to your trousers as a bum bag. On colder days the sleeves can be poppered into the cuffs and the body zipped into the Darien jacket. The thing I like most of all though is you can wear it as a jacket in its own right. It’s windproof, and if you get caught out in a shower, you can reverse it so the fleece is on the inner, and the waterproof nylon side is on the outer. With six pockets there is no problem with stashing your bits and pieces. And if it gets a bit too warm there are underarm zipped vents
What’s not? The price. But, although it may seem expensive for a lining, you are getting what’s essentially a reversible jacket.
