Bering Flash jeans, £299.99
Time tested: Four months/3000 miles
What's good? Plenty. These have been my jeans of choice throughout the summer and they have stood up well to daily use on my 17-mile commute. I've not crashed in them, but can tell you that there is reassuring CE-approved armour at the knee, shin and hips. French firm Bering has also included sliders (useful if you are better at getting your knee down than I am). Short and long zips to join the jeans to a jacket are also good news and there are stretch panels to help you move around both on and off the bike. You also get double thickness leather at key areas, such as the bum. Oh, and there are two reasonably-sized, zip-up pockets for essentials.
What's not? They could do with more ventilation for warm days. There is a lining but I find the jeans prone to sticking to my legs after summer rides – wearing a base layer sorts this clamminess issue.
