Product Review: Auritech earplugs

Auritech earplugs, £19.95

Time tested: One month/2000 miles

What’s good? I had only ever used foam earplugs before trying these new thermoplastic types from Auritech, which have ceramic filters within a central tube said to cut out the damaging wind noise but not muffle the conversation. They do exactly what they promise and after six weeks of daily use I was very pleased. I have a Schuberth SRC communications systems for music and mobile phone and they worked very well with that; cutting the wind noise but allowing the music through. They can also be washed easily.

What’s not? I wore these for the first part of a recent trip to Italy, but after five hours of riding I was in a lot of pain and eventually I had to take them out and replace them with foam plugs. I am not sure why they hurt me so much as I was well used to them by then. Compared to the pennies for foam earplugs, spending £20 to find a product hurts you on a long ride is expensive.
