Today’s bike of the day is the Honda VFR800i, regarded by some as the best version of the best motorcycle ever built.
It looks great and goes well whether you’re on track, commuting or heading on a two-week holiday with pillion and luggage. This is an evolution of the VFR750 that started out as a sportsbike but ended up as a super sports tourer.
This machine is capable and stable in any situation and is nimble enough for the road but if you want to be in the fast group on a track day then this is not the bike for you.
The V-four layout is rather unusual – it has 781cc and produces 108bhp with 61ftlb of torque but it's costlier and no more powerful than the all-conquering in-line four. It feels and sounds far more exciting and produces more grunt low in the rev range although the Triumph Sprint beats it for power and torque.
It's maybe not as good as people would have you believe but still well above average. Rectifier issues can cause it to stop, potentially with a boiling battery but non-Honda units are cheap and solve the problem before it occurs.
These do tend to hold their value so you shouldn't lose much if you sell it on.
