Rukka Apollo gloves, £169.99
Time used: Two years/8000 miles
What’s good? Decent gloves can make-or-break a ride… and these are very good indeed. Comfortable from the word go, they are armoured with hard protection over the knuckles and a carbon section on the heal of your hand – the point that is likely to grind the Tarmac first (happily, I’ve yet to test this aspect). There is clever stuff, too. The leather is bonded with Gore-Tex – I’ve had no leaks, and yes, they are breathable. And practical stuff, with a screen wipe and reflective panels.
What’s not: These have to be some of the most costly gloves I have worn in 20 years of biking. Also, the white sections show the grime (you can get them in black).
