Product review: Rab Generator Vest

Rab Generator Vest, £75
Miles covered/time:
2000/five months

What’s good? This is an incredibly light, superbly warm layer from the outdoor experts Cotswold Outdoor, who recommend and advise round the world travellers including MCN columnists Kevin and Julia Sanders.

Made by renowned outdoor brand Rab, the vest is like wearing a lightweight sleeping bag under your leather jacket.

It’s the perfect accompaniment for those really early morning starts when leathers are the thing to wear but it’s just a bit cold to wear on their own.

And if it gets too warm the vest packs into its own pocket which will easily fit into a bum bag or even under your seat. I’ve used this for thousands of miles already and it has become a regular daily riding item.

So far I haven’t got it wet but am told that it’s just as warm when it’s wet as it is when it’s dry.

What’s not? It’s £75 for a thermal liner, and most jackets come with one in the first place.

Rating: 4/5
