Trouser review: Tucano Urbano Panta Urbis textile trousers

Tucano Urbano Panta Urbis textile trousers, £91.90
Time owned:
Four months/6000 miles

What’s good? They’re very easy to wear over other trousers because they have a zip and Velcro running from hip to ankle on both sides. Unlike some other textile trousers, the hip armour isn’t so thick that you look like you’re wearing a nappy.

They’ve also got removable armour at the knee. They’re warm, thanks to the removable thermal lining, breathable and reasonably priced.

What’s not? They’re not 100% waterproof. In sustained heavy rain, when water pools in your lap, they let some in. After an 80-mile ride in a constant downpour, I arrived needing a change of trousers. In 6000 miles, only once have conditions been bad enough to cause this, so I think I can live with it. The first time you try to remove or replace the thermal lining, make sure you’ve got 10 minutes spare – it’s a bit fiddly.
