Alpinestars Koln Drystar Jacket, £249.99
Miles covered/time: 4500/two months
What’s good: I’ve experienced some of the worst winter weather imaginable and the Drystar jacket has remained 100% waterproof, no leakage around the zip even – very impressive. There’s a double zip at the front that repels cold windblast, and overall I’m really impressed by this stylish winter jacket. All the layers are removable, if it gets too warm there’s zippered air intakes also. I destroyed my last Alpinestars winter jacket during a get-off last year but the body armour was perfect, the elbow armour definitely saved my arms, and this jacket has the same CE armour. At under £250 I don’t think it’s badly priced either; I was expecting a jacket of this spec to cost more from a big-name brand.
What’s not: The waistband is a little awkward to adjust and it’s only available in one colour. I personally prefer winter jackets to be bright as it’s usually dark or dull outside when you’re wearing them. However there are integrated reflective strips on this jacket that stand out at night, as long as you have a light pointing at you.
