Alpinestars Viper Air Textile Jacket: £169.99
Time tested: Six months/4000-miles.
What’s good? I’ve been wearing this textile jacket for the summer season, including a 3000-mile riding holiday down to Portugal on my Hyperstrada. It’s light, comfortable and the mesh construction keeps you cool in the very hot weather, but thanks to a removable, windproof inner-lining it keeps you warm in chilly winds. It comes with CE-certified Bio-Armor shoulder and elbow protectors and a thin foam back insert, which I’ve removed to make way for the dedicated Astars racing back protector I always wear.
What’s not? The white sections are very hard to keep clean and it doesn’t look like pristine anymore. You can still see the general road stains and fly splats I’ve accumulated over the past 4000 miles, despite putting the jacket in the wash a number of times. Choosing a darker colour would be the better option.
