Nikwax Waterproofing Wax for Leather, £2.99 (60ml)
Miles covered/time: 800/two weeks
What’s good? This new wax has performed three important jobs on my prized Lewis Leathers boots.
Firstly, it’s (as the name suggests) further bolstered their waterproofing – not a drop gets through at the seams.
Secondly, an application of this wax to my recently cleaned boots has actually dulled some of the more minor surface scratches that boots pick up with prolonged all-weather use. And thirdly, it’s left them terribly shiny, after a quick post-wax buffing.
They’re still a long chalk from as-new, but they’re better prepared for a rainy winter than they were two weeks ago.
This stuff is really very cheap, too – a 60ml tube will do a couple of pairs of boots, easy.
What’s not? If you’re not totally thorough with the black wax’s application to the seamed areas of whatever garment you’re waterproofing, it’s next to useless. You might want to check you’re not applying it anywhere near beige carpet, too. Er, sorry darling.
