Cold Killers Wind Buddy £64.99
Miles covered/time: 500/two months
What’s good: Now the cold mornings are here, I’m using this zip-up top more and more – and it’s meant I’ve been able to delay the evil moment when I have to dig out the thermal linings for my winter gear. On the bike it’s very comfortable and warm – I’ve had to re-open the vents on my jacket on some recent mornings, despite the thermometer struggling to get into double figures. The thermal properties are down to the clever materials – Cold Killers claim the ‘Softshell’ fabric is stretchy, windproof and breathable thanks to a three-ply laminate. Other good points? The fit is tailored and there are reflective strips, which could come in handy if I ever find myself fettling the bike at the roadside (quite likely when I switch back from my Yamaha Fazer 8 test bike to my bitsa VFR). Sizes are S-XXXL.
What’s not: I’ve not had to wash it yet, but when I do I’ll have to dry it on the line because the label says it won’t go in the tumble – it’s all polyester so I suspect it would come out the size and consistency of a crisp packet. It’s not cheap either, but £65 isn’t out of the way expensive.
