Product Review: Brembo Serie Oro brake discs and pads

Brembo Serie Oro brake discs and pads, £395

Time used: Two months/1200 miles

What’s good? I needed new brake discs and pads on my recently purchased 1989 BMW K1 as the originals were shot to bits. Brembo made the original kit and offer the Serie Oro as an upgrade over standard, which also brings the advantage of accommodating the K1’s ABS ring. Along with the 5mm thick and 305mm diameter discs I have a set of Brembo SA sintered brake pads and the costs for both are almost the same as that for OE BMW parts, but with added braking performance. The fitting was easy and after getting some bedding in miles done the braking performance of a heavy, 25-year-old bike is so much better than standard (though I have fitted Goodridge hoses as well). They look awesome too.

What’s not? During the bedding in there has been a lot of brake dust created, which shows up prominently on the K1’s bright yellow wheels. I’m hoping this reduces with more mileage.
