Product review: Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres
James has ridden 4500 miles on the Metzeler Roadtec 01 tyres and here's what he thinks of them.
When I decided to test these Metzeler tyres, I was after something that would do a bit of everything well. I’d heard rave reviews of Metzeler’s Roadtec 01 and I was completely blown away by just how good they were!
They take very little time to warm up and offer plenty of flattering feedback – regardless of the bike you ride. They’re also a fantastic tyre in wet and cold conditions - something we’re not short of here in the UK - and are even okay on track too (though this does shorten the lifespan considerably).
I’ve used them on two different machines now and both times they’ve complimented the suspension very well. I love them and they’re very nearly faultless.
Being a sports touring tyre, you’d hope to get some decent mileage out of them - especially given that they don’t come cheap. However, I managed to go through a set in just 4000 miles (with two trackdays and plenty of motorway miles, mind you). This could be a deal-breaker for some users, however I think this is just a small price to pay, to ride how I like with an exceptionally good tyre.
Price £240 a pair (120/70 front, 160/60 rear)
What other rubber have we put to the test?
