Why is it MCN’s pick?
This week MCN tested the new 959 Panigale Corse, which you can read about in next week’s issue, and it got us thinking about Ducati’s other middleweight superbikes. Our thinking, naturally, eventually led to the 848…
Launched in 2007, the 848 was the first middleweight V-twin that Ducati purposely didn’t design for racing. Unlike the supersport rule-bending 748 and 749, the 848’s 849cc Testastretta was in no way legal and was instead designed to power a relaxed Ducati sportsbike.
Effortlessly elegant, especially in its beautiful white paint, the 848 is a lovely road bike that has more than enough grunt to be fun and lacks the ferocity that came with the 1098 and later 1198 models. It’s not a ‘starter’ Ducati sportsbike, it’s a beautiful road bike that comes with a soulful V-twin and excellent chassis. A great bike.
“A lovely 848 with 12,700-miles on its clocks and Termignoni pipes.”
