It just takes a whiff of that two-stroke mix to get you excited about today’s bike of the day; this stunning Suzuki RG500.
“This 1988 RG500 is in stunning original condition, and I have owned the bike since 2005. It has never been apart and, with the exception of the Maxton suspension upgrade is otherwise completely original. This was added as the bike was a little too soft with my daughter on the back. It has since been back to Maxton for a change of spring and set up for a 14st rider. It also has upgrades to the clutch, oil check valves and upgraded petrol valves, it also has a stainless fairing brace. I have all old MoTs to go with the bike. It never gets used in the rain, and is taken off the road and put on paddock stands front and rear and a custom cover which will come with the bike. I have a file full of paperwork along with 2 original Suzuki keys a workshop and owner’s manual and tool kit which has never been used. All fairings are genuine Suzuki and are mint.”
“Suzuki launched its RG500 road bike 11 years after the RG500 racer hit the Grand Prix trail with Barry Sheene in 1974. Over the next ten years the RG took four world titles and 50 Grand Prix victories. It was a remarkable machine – arguably the first modern GP bike – and once Suzuki started selling production versions of the factory racers it became the only choice for privateers, both in GPs and in national-level racing. It’s a beautiful bike that’s lost nothing of its appeal with age.”
