Bags Connection Baracuda 30 litre rucksack, £108.36
Time tested: 400 miles/two months
What’s good? Sublime build quality with thick, lined nylon, 100% waterproof (even the zipped external pocket) and supremely comfortable while riding. A large, padded internal laptop pocket and two mesh dividers (one zipped) keep small items separate. Subtle reflective panels and large looped zip pull are nice touches. It feels like a bag for life.
What’s not? All roll top bags suffer the trade-off for their water tightness, it’s a little like keeping your stuff in a tall black bucket. When they’re full of kit, retrieving something from the bottom is tricky without emptying the bag completely. It’s a worthwhile trade-off, but this problem is exacerbated with the Baracuda as the bottom isn’t quite flat so it falls over when trying to rummage through it. Considering the high quality of the material used, the plastic buckles are a little flimsy. I managed to break the female part of the waist buckle by accidently standing on it.
