MCN's Senior Road Tester, Adam 'Chad' Child, has picked today's bike of the day: This 2003 Ducati 748.
Chad says: "The same looks as the legendary 916 but for half the price. On the road you really don’t need any more power. A lovely sounding inexpensive way into the Ducati lifestyle."
On sale for £2,999 the seller adds: "This fantastic Ducati 748 with just one owner from new - that's me, the seller - with low mileage (10633, may increase before a sale) and full service history is available to move into its mid-life, now in its 14th year! MoT - April '18 with life left in tyres and pads. This was the last of the 748s, bought April 2003 it remains the iconic design that originated with the 916 some years earlier.
"Great motor, great handling, increasingly seen as a classic bike, yet with performance to match many modern machines. Fully adjustable front & rear suspension as standard. Electronic options abound: on/off switch, full beam/ dipped beam, and indicators! The bike has just had new cam belts fitted as well as clutch plates and basket. I have just changed oil, oil/ air/ petrol filters myself. The bike was previously serviced first at 600 miles, then 4000 and at 9,400 miles each with new cam belts, fluids and filters.
"The bike was unused from 2007 - 2016. After market Oberon clutch servo valve fitted (the original is available too - it just gives a heavier clutch action). A Rimoza open clutch cover is fitted - again the original is available too. For the less good news, the tank needs a respray. The fairings all need attention (if you are looking for a pristine example please stop reading now) as they have picked up minor scratches, garage nicks, stone chips and so forth along the way as well as a respray after a very light drop.
"If someone has the will to renovate the plastic parts then this would be a superb example of this model as the bike is clean (always garaged, 99% dry miles). But mechanically all is well - ready to go."
MCN Ducati 748 1994-2003 review
"The Ducati 748 is nearly identical to the iconic Ducati 916 but with a smaller engine (and narrower rear wheel). That means sublime handling on smooth surfaces, terrible comfort, high running costs and a feel-good experience most other motorcycles can’t touch. Few motorcycles match the simple, gorgeous curves of the Ducati 748."
